“Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen.”
Hebrews 11:1-2
Opening Hymn: “Come Now Almighty King”
Come now almighty King, Help us your name to sing
Help us to praise, Father all glorious, ever victorious
Come and reign over us, ancient of days.
Come now Incarnate Son, Your life in us begun
Our prayer attend, come and your people bless
And give your Word success, strengthen your righteousness,
Savior and friend.
Come Holy Comforter, Your sacred witness bear
In this glad hour, Your grace to us impart, Now rule in every heart,
Never from us depart, Spirit of Pow’r!
To the great One in Three, Eternal praises be,
Forever more, Your sovereign majesty
May we in glory see, and to eternity, love and adore.
Closing Hymn: “Now Thank We All Our God”
Now Thank we all our God with hearts and hands and voices
Who wondrous things has done in whom this world rejoices
Who from our mothers’ arms has blessed us on our way
With countless gifts of love and still is ours today.
All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given
The Son and Him who reigns with them in highest heaven;
The One eternal God whom earth and heaven adore
For thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore.
Theme: Have I prepared myself for the Coming?
There is something that as religious people, we tend to forget. Those things that happened to God’s people in the past, continue to happen to people today. Yes, they do happen to us. Their story is our story. Throughout salvation history, the people of God walked by faith with confident assurance in invisible things. Abraham went forth not knowing where the road would take him. As a nomad wanders the earth, Abraham walked with faith in the one who called him. Like Abraham, we have a choice. We can go back to the place from which we came, or we can continue to go forward as we seek God’s homeland. Do we truly have the faith to not be in our comfort zone and to make drastic changes that may be uneasy for us, knowing that it is for the better good?
Life’s journey has a destiny, and we must always move at God’s command. Like our ancestors in faith, we seek a home whose builder is our God. Though we cannot see it, the eyes of faith lead us to the place God has prepared for us. At the same time, we must diligently work to build the city of God here on earth. Are we up for the challenge? Do we mistreat our fellow Christians or do we treat them with honesty and justice? If we are fair in all our dealings on earth, we will be ready to greet the one who leads us to our heavenly home and do what ever is necessary to fulfill the commands handed to us throughout the ages, maybe with some new twists to get the message out to those who are searching. Our baptism and confirmation is not the completion of our work, it is only the beginning. May we recognize our duty.

NINETEENTH SUNDAY
IN ORDINARY TIME
Wisdom 18:6-9
Psalm 33
Hebrews 11:1-2, 8-19
Luke 12:32-48
KEY VERSE: "Blessed are those
servants whom the master finds
vigilant on his arrival" (v 37).
READING: The early Church expected
the imminent return of Jesus Christ. In
speaking of his second coming, Jesus
described himself as a master returning
from a wedding and expected to find his
servants vigilant on his arrival. Likewise,
his disciples should never leave a task
undone that ought to be finished before Christ's return. Jesus made the unlikely comparison of himself to a thief in the night (1Thes 5:2). He pointed to the uncertain hour of his return telling his disciples to be prepared whenever he might come. The faithful servant who watched over the household (the Church) would be rewarded when the master returned. Unfaithful servants would be punished for their shameful behavior. Jesus warned these future leaders of the Church that they would be held more accountable than those who acted out of ignorance. If Jesus' followers are faithful servants who watch over the household of God, the Church here on earth, they will be rewarded for their fidelity
.
REFLECTING: Am I a good steward of the treasure and talents the Lord has given me?
PRAYING: Lord Jesus, help me to be a faithful and trustworthy servant of you and your people.
Dormition/Assumption of Mary Blessings
The traditional blessings of flowers, herbs, and harvest will be done at the beginning of each Mass next Sunday. It is requested that the gifts be placed on the Marian Altar before Mass.
